Bank robbed in Sanborn, middle school placed on lockdown

Sanborn, Iowa

SANBORN, Iowa (KTIV) - A bank in a small northwest Iowa town was robbed Monday afternoon.

KIWA Radio says at about 1 p.m. the Sanborn Savings Bank was robbed. O’Brien County Sheriff Bruce Devereaux says officers were able to apprehend a suspect and he is now in custody. No word yet on the identity of the suspect or if there were any injuries involved in the robbery.

Around the same time this robbery was being reported the middle school in Sanborn was put on lockdown.

At about 1:15 p.m. the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School issued a lockdown, where nobody was allowed in or out of the building. Superintendent Patrick Carlin said the lockdown was put into place after the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office called the district saying there was a “situation” happening in the neighborhood.
