If I ask someone what they were thinking when they clicked on an unsolicited text or email, they'll usually concede, "I wasn't thinking anything."

That's the best gift you can give the thieves behind exploits like the dangerous PayPal Unauthorized Transaction scam. They don't want you to think. They want you to panic.

The fraud starts with a text or email falsely claiming a company deducted hundreds of dollars from your PayPal account.

In a perfect world, this is where consumers pause, reread the text or email, notice the poor grammar, weird phrasing and other inconsistencies, and immediately delete.

But fear, confusion, and worry often lure victims into the scammer's trap.
