Mid-City bank robbed at gunpoint, New Orleans police say

New Orleans police have arrested a man accused of robbing a Mid-City bank with an assault rifle Friday afternoon.

The Hancock Whitney branch at 3311 Canal St. was robbed just before 12:30 p.m. 

Police said they surrounded the area bounded by Dumaine, North White, St. Ann and North Dupre streets, and arrested their suspect within 30 minutes. Detectives also were investigating bullet damage to a vehicle in the area, which they think is related to the robbery. 

Authorities did not immediately release more details.
